An Energy Statement demonstrates how a proposed development will meet local and national energy policy requirements. Most local planning authorities now require one as part of a planning application for new residential or mixed-use schemes — and many have their own specific targets that go beyond Building Regulations.

Getting the energy strategy right at planning stage avoids conditions being placed on the permission that are difficult or expensive to satisfy later in the design process.

Greater London’s energy hierarchy
Developments in Greater London must demonstrate compliance with the London Plan’s energy policies, which set ambitious carbon reduction targets and require a hierarchical approach: be lean, be clean, be green.
We prepare London Plan Energy Strategies that address the full hierarchy — demand reduction, efficient systems and renewable energy — and include the carbon calculations required by the GLA. We also prepare Low Emissions Strategies where required by borough policy.
